Weddings/Banns

If you wish to book a wedding, or wish to have your banns of marriage called, first contact the Highbury Church Partnership office (see under contact us). Banns can be arranged through the office. If you wish to book a wedding at the church during the interregnum please contact the office to arrange a meeting with a member of clergy.

To be married in Cotham Parish Church, at least one of you either needs to live within the parish or be on the church’s electoral roll – which is a list of regular worshippers at the church. You may also be married by qualifying connection – please contact the office to discuss whether this could apply to you. In special cases it may also be possible to marry by Archbishop of Canterbury’s Special Licence if you neither live in the parish nor are on the electoral roll. However, this option should be explored with plenty of notice as the licence is only granted in cases where there is an overriding pastoral reason for doing so, and its issue is strictly at the discretion of the Archbishop and so not “automatic”. More details about Archbishop’s Special Licences can be found on the Faculty Office Website.

If you are interested in getting married at Cotham, it is very important that you contact the office before making any other plans, especially before arranging or booking a wedding reception. Sometimes circumstances may be in place which rule out the possibility of a marriage taking place at a certain time/date, or indeed it may not be possible legally to marry you at this particular church, especially if neither of you is resident within the parish. So the golden rule is: contact us first.
